Hello everyone, this will be a list of sample teams new players can use to help them get straight into playing the VGC 2018 format. This will be a community project, so please post your teams down below. The second post in this thread will be all the approved sample teams Rules for submitting: - Submit a team in a post below - When posting, you must either use a spoiler tag or post it in a pastebin, as to not clutter the thread - If the team is not yours, give credit where credit is due. No one likes having their content stolen - Submit a team name, this will be used to help differentiate teams to a new player - An explanation of what the team does or its EVs would be useful, but not mandatory - Try to give a variety of teams. We don't need 9 versions of Perish Trap for example Requesting: - You can request a team composition be added if there isn't one already. Say no one has posted a Rain team, you can request below in a polite manner "Can someone please submit a rain team for the discussion?"

I got a lot of help from this site so I thought might as well contribute in any way I can so here's some sample teams I've been using. Perish Rain https://pokepast.es/a319f13645ba18c7 Japan Sand https://pokepast.es/da2a3ef5c24e5582
This, so far, is one of my perish trap teams. Just a word of warning, I am not overly experienced in this meta yet, so feel free to make any changes. If you do, I would love to hear. https://pokepast.es/072947d960159b46 As with all perish trap teams this year, I start with Mega-Gengar. For the moves, I think most are self explanatory. Protect for stalling turns and... umm... protection? Perish song for the memes, sludge bomb for offensive pressure against tapus etc and substitute for prolonged life. Now for the ev's. Max speed is necessary here, to attack first if at all possible. I would love to tell you what the others do, but I can't. They pretty much give the best overall bulk. Next I thought I would bring in the best other trapper in VGC, Gothitelle. Gothitelle has protect, psychic for offense, heal pulse to help keep teammates alive and trick room, which helps for speed control. I have also given it an aguav berry to prolong it's own life further. The ev's are fairly simple, enough to survive max attack adamant lando-T tectonic rage 100% of the time and the rest in special bulk. Next I thought I would finish the perish trap element for the team with another singer, Politoed. Politoed has protect, scald for offence and hax, perish song and icy wind for speed control out of trick room. As for an item, I'm not sure atm, I'm running it with sitrus, but feel free to change. The ev's on Politoed make max attack lando-T earthquake a 3 hit ko 100% of the time, and Ploitoed will, in rain, ohko 4hp/ 0spdef lando-Twith scald. Unfortunately, theres nothing you can do against tapu koko thunderbolt, but with these ev's you always live it's volt switch. That's bound to count for something, right?? Now I began to look for supportive mons with some firepower. Lando-T fit this perfectly for me. I have taken this Landorus straight from Wolfe Glick, so all credits to him for this bulky Groundium z set. He explains it very well in this video, so please allow him to explain the moves and ev's to you. This next pick might be a bit controversial, but yes. My next pick is Mega-Kangaskhan. Even though I already have a mega in Gengar, I chose Kangaskhan as when practising, I noticed that I never really needed it along with gengar. This may not suit you, but I think it fits for me rather well. It is relatively standard, with protect, double edge, fake out and ice punch. Sadly, again I am not able to tell you what these ev's do, so feel free to change if you need to. My final pick was another supportive mon in Celesteela. It has protect, leech seed for recovery, substitute and heavy slam. Celesteela also has leftovers for maximum recovery. The celesteela ev's give it lots of general bulk, while still getting the attack beast boost when it does ko a pokemon with it's very powerful heavy slam. Overall I really like this team as an all rounded Perish Trap team. If you do play with it then first of all, Good luck, and secondly, if you do have any feedback please to say or message my PS account which is Natizo.
http://pokepast.es/4f2ec14574f05da5 This is the latest version of my Gardevoir + Incineroar squad with some updated ev spreads/moveset changes etc. In essence its a tailroom squad using the various speed control options to slowly take control of a game along with certain strong spread damage options pokemon can drop left and right. Double z-moves open up more of the format for super strong attacks. And the team as a whole is rather bulky so it can take hits if needed.

While the usual variant use Volcarona with Zapdos and Fini, I found this variant more effect vs chalk and other volcarona. The team have been doing really well so far (topped the VGC 18 ladder etc), and don't have any terrible matchups. Snarl support from Suicune and Intimidate helps Volcarona set up Quiver Dance easily, and once boosted, with wiki berry assistance, its hard to stop it. The team have been quite popular at the PS ladder atm.
Guard Swap Chansey It's even better in 2018 because not as many people are using Kartana! I did not make this team originally. This version was one made by DaWoblefet. He says he has an updated version though... I did have the idea of putting Toxic on Bastiodon! That move was all me. https://pokepast.es/6139717f88fcfa78

Exploding Sun Claming Depression Teams I made while trying to meme. Fun teams if someone wants to meme. Probably taking the Clam to the Brooklyn MSS soon
Hey, I'm hoping that you'll be able to explain a little bit more about this team. Seems like it fits my offensive playstyle.
hey guys here's my first experiment of a team for this format i like to call it "Twin snakes", still i'm working on it so if someone have some ideas how to improve feel free to tell Spoiler: Twin snakes Serperior @ Focus Sash Ability: Contrary Level: 50 EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Leaf Storm - Protect - Glare - Taunt it works as a fast ofensive mon thanks to contrary and leaf storm and supporter with glare for speed control and taunt for trick room users, aegislash and another things like that. Milotic @ Adrenaline Orb Ability: Competitive Level: 50 EVs: 20 HP / 252 SpA / 236 Spe Timid Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Scald - Protect - Recover - Icy Wind being timid with 236 milotic is 1 point faster than adamant landorus full speed, so after being boosted with competitive landorus and salamence aren't a problem at all. Salamence @ Salamencite Ability: Intimidate Level: 50 EVs: 4 HP / 140 Atk / 52 SpA / 84 SpD / 228 Spe Hasty Nature - Hyper Voice - Double-Edge - Protect - Tailwind i prefer hasty over naive just for the ice beam cress and a possible dragon pulse from naganadel, it has enough ev investment to reach 185 in speed outspeeding base 115 mons and the ofensive is a kind of balance. Tapu Lele @ Choice Scarf Ability: Psychic Surge Level: 50 EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Modest Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Moonblast - Psychic - Dazzling Gleam - Thunderbolt scarf lele works as a fast sweeper and as a secondary way to deal with faster mons when is impossible to set icy wind, tailwind or glare. Heatran @ Firium Z Ability: Flash Fire Level: 50 EVs: 12 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 140 SpD / 100 Spe Modest Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Heat Wave - Protect - Flash Cannon - Earth Power if i'm not wrong with 12/140 in SpD can handle gigavolt havok from zapdos, with 100 ev in speed is more faster than standar tapu fini (just in case). Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite Ability: Inner Focus Level: 50 EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Fake Out - Double-Edge - Low Kick - Sucker Punch standar mega kangaskhan, nothing much to say. BUT i'm still defining this slot, i'm try to figure the best option for this, i was thinking about AV landorus or scrafty.
Spoiler: Standard 'Meta' Rain team Kingdra @ Waterium Z Ability: Swift Swim Level: 50 EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Modest Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Dragon Pulse - Hydro Pump - Protect - Muddy Water Kingdra is used as the main breaker. For things that Metagross can't handle, or for just mild annoyances, Kingdra is your guy/girl/non-gender specific mon. Politoed @ Aguav Berry Ability: Drizzle Level: 50 EVs: 220 HP / 148 Def / 84 SpA / 52 SpD / 4 Spe Calm Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Scald - Protect - Encore - Ice Beam You could probably switch Politoed out for Pelliper if you wanted Tailwind, but I haven't due to the horrendous Electric weakness. Heatran @ Shuca Berry Ability: Flash Fire Level: 50 EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD Modest Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Heat Wave - Earth Power - Flash Cannon - Protect Heatran is on a rain team for one purpose honestly: Ferrothorn. This team was originally quite weak to it so I added it and it works well as a counter to it as well as having unintended bonuses like walling Amoongus and the like. Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf Ability: Intimidate Level: 50 EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Earthquake - Rock Slide - U-turn - Superpower Landrous is mostly used for Intimidate and punching fast holes through threats like Aegislash. Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite Ability: Tough Claws Level: 50 EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Bullet Punch - Meteor Mash - Zen Headbutt - Protect Metagross is the sweeper. Its purpose is to clean up. This team is also designed so that if you need to forgo the rain, you can do that. It functions well as a rain team and a standard Metagross team depending on team preview. Sableye @ Focus Sash Ability: Prankster Level: 50 EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def Impish Nature - Shadow Sneak - Taunt - Toxic - Protect Sableye is my TR counter and my status spreader. It went with this over Thundrus due to the rock weakness it had. Standard 'Meta' Rain Team
Greetings guys!! How's it going? So i was wondering, i saw in the Showdown Ladder,a lot of people using a team that consists of : Charizard-Y, Kartana, Tapu Koko, Cresselia, Snorlax and Landorus-Therian Form. And i was wondering if anybody has it,and if he/she/it can please submit it in the thread i would appreciate it a lot . Also,if he/she/it could post the link, blog, website where u can find that spread or any other spread. Thanks a lot!!!
A few mistakes I noticed: -Razer's Fini could have 4 extra EV's if you give it a Bold nature; -Mr.GX's Volcarona is wasting 32 EV's, easily fixed by changing its nature to Modest; -Broda's Volcarona on the Japan Sand team would save 16 EV's by changing its nature to Timid. You should probably ask the builders to change the main post, @LightCore, and you, readers, should change your teams if you've imported them. Also, @Natizo_, if the only goal of having Celesteela's Attack one point above its Defense was to always get an Attack boost, you can do that with 4 less Attack EV's, since tying both stats will always result on an Attack boost.
